End play cleanly without overarousal

Play is useful, but it is not automatically calming. For some animals, the transition back down matters as much as the game itself.

What helps

Good play sessions usually have:

  • a clear beginning
  • a manageable intensity
  • a predictable ending
  • space for recovery afterwards

That makes activity easier to integrate into the day.

What causes problems

Issues grow when:

  • play goes on too long
  • intensity keeps rising
  • there is no clear finish

Then “fun” turns into lingering tension.

The better goal

Do not judge play only by excitement. Judge it by whether the animal can return to calm afterwards.
